New online kits help measure students’ reading ability

From The Lexile Framework for Reading, a widely used scale for matching text difficulty with student reading ability, come three new online kits designed to help administrators, educators, and parents better assess students’ reading skills. The Administrator Lexile Resource Kit, the Educator Lexile Resource Kit, and the Parent Lexile Resource Kit were designed to help integrate Lexile measures into reading education at school and at home, the company said. Each Lexile Resource Kit includes quick-reference fact sheets and detailed white papers. The Educator Resource Kit, for example, offers information about what Lexiles are; how the Lexile Framework works; tips on how to use Lexiles more effectively in the classroom, library, and at home; professional development options for educators; and factors that affect the measurement of students’ reading skills. New and updated information will be added to the kits on an ongoing basis. In addition to the free downloadable files, print copies of the Lexile Resource Kits also are available for nominal shipping and handling charges.
