Google unveils calendar application

News.com reports that Google has unveiled a free web-based calendar application that is presumed to increase the competition with Yahoo and Microsoft. The beta version of Google Calendar allows users to search for and add events from both within the program or through sites that use open source standards for calendars. Sites that do have open-source standards are invited to add a “Google Calendar” button next to listed events. Users will also be allowed to access events from friends’ shared calendars as well as import events from Outlook. Once events are added, the user can use a “Search My Calendars” search bar to access saved events…
