The New York Times reports that according to a report released by the Pew Internet & American Life Project, 8 percent of internet users, which amounts to about 12 million Americans, maintain a blog, while 57 million read them. The report found that the people who do keep a blog are mostly young, have never been published anywhere else, and are racially diverse. The report, called “Bloggers: A Portrait of the Internet’s New Storytellers,” also found that while many well-known blogs focus on politics, 37 percent were personal in nature. Other notable topics were politics and government (11 percent), entertainment (7 percent), and sports (6 percent).
