Survey reveals who’s blogging–and why

The New York Times reports that according to a report released by the Pew Internet & American Life Project, 8 percent of internet users, which amounts to about 12 million Americans, maintain a blog, while 57 million read them. The report found that the people who do keep a blog are mostly young, have never been published anywhere else, and are racially diverse. The report, called “Bloggers: A Portrait of the Internet’s New Storytellers,” also found that while many well-known blogs focus on politics, 37 percent were personal in nature. Other notable topics were politics and government (11 percent), entertainment (7 percent), and sports (6 percent). In addition, only 34 percent of bloggers surveyed felt that blogging is a form of journalism… (Note: This site requires free registration.)
