New York, Dec. 3, 2010 – Tabula Digita, developer of the DimensionU™ Learning System game-based learning solution for K-12 students reports that sign-ups for its first annual U Games National Scholarship Tournament are ahead of pace just 30 days after launching the competition. More than 3,500 student competitors have joined the virtual mathematics tournament, vying for a chance to win $60,000 in scholarship funds and over 1,000 additional prizes including iPod Touches, iPads, popular gaming consoles, 32” LCD TVs, Razor Electric Bikes, gift cards, and more.
The competition, co-sponsored by Intel and in partnership with Dell, consists of 12 total rounds of virtual play, each lasting two weeks. With 11 rounds of play remaining until May 1, 2011, students in grade three – eight can still join the nationwide competition by downloading a free, special tournament version of the DimensionU learning system for math by going to www.dimensionu.com/UGames. The learning solution features the award-winning DimensionM, recognized for its captivating cache of lessons that offer students an opportunity to master over 200 unique math skills. The Web-based lessons and practice activities, accessible from home or school, are correlated to the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics (NCTM) and state standards in all 50 states.
Scores will be computed based on game play skills but also on strategy, academic performance and an immediate “need-to-know the math” outcome. At the end of the virtual tournament, the top ten middle and elementary school players from each round will be eligible to attend the live U Games Tournament final event which will be held in New York City on May 21, 2011. At the conclusion of the live competition, the middle school winner will receive a $50,000 scholarship to be used towards the child’s college education, plus $1,000 cash, The elementary school winner of the live competition will receive a $10,000 scholarship and a family vacation for four to DisneyWorld in Orlando.
