Press Release: New ASCD Book Offers Educators Practical Leadership Strategies and Inspiration

Alexandria, VA (12/19/2011)—ASCD is pleased to announce the publication of its latest book, Insights into Action: Successful School Leaders Share What Works, by award-winning educator William Sterrett.

No one is more intimately acquainted with the daily challenges that a school leader faces than a fellow educator who has “been there, done that.” In this important new book, Sterrett shares strategies pulled from his experiences as a principal and teacher leader, as well as practical, effective strategies for leadership success from remarkable education leaders and innovators such as Carol Ann Tomlinson, Richard DuFour, Baruti Kafele, and James Popham.

Yet, inspiring readers through case studies of powerful education leaders is just one of the goals of this book. Insights into Action translates research and experience into achievable strategies that school leaders will aspire to replicate. From “transforming vision into reality” to “turning technology into engaged learning,” this book explores the subjects most relevant to leaders in today’s schools. And to help educators translate powerful leadership practices into great student results, each chapter also includes action items and in-the-field activities.

Referred to by Milken Family Foundation’s Senior Vice President Jane Foley as “equal parts information, wisdom, and inspiration,” Insights into Action outlines a path to help leaders become more effective, strengthen their learning communities, and take on the real challenges of today.

“To continue to move education forward, it is essential for leaders to connect with the expertise of colleagues who face similar challenges,” said ASCD Executive Director and CEO Gene R. Carter. “Standing at the intersection of theory and practice, William Sterrett’s insightful new book offers school and classroom leaders an authentic opportunity to learn from principals, education advocates, and practitioners who have successfully championed positive change.”
