Press Release: Mike McGowan named 2012 SMART Exemplary Educator of the Year
Veteran educator credits CCC! from New Dimension Media as assisting in award win
(Chicago, IL)– Mike McGowan—Supervisor of Technology at Lincoln Elementary School District 156 in Calumet City, Illinois—has been named the 2012 SMART Exemplary Educator of the Year by SMART Interactive Solutions. Nominated for this prestigious award without his knowledge, Mike was cited for his work helping educators at Lincoln use SMART technologies in their classroom lessons, and also for his presentations at conferences for the benefit of other technology supervisors. In addition to his school and district, Mike credits his incorporation of CCC! streaming educational media from New Dimension Media (NDM) with helping him to achieve this national recognition.
“NDM’s content is fully compatible with SMART interactive technology, and I use it because it really helps teachers bring classroom lessons to life,” said Mike McGowan. “The content from NDM—which comes from top providers like Disney Educational Productions, National Geographic Education, and BBC Motion Gallery—lets teachers use their interactive whiteboards to engage students with content that can be customized to their individual lesson plans. Certainly, CCC! has helped me to illustrate to other educators the value and positive impact that this technology can have in the classroom.”
In addition to Mike’s award, Lincoln Elementary was also named a SMART Showcase Elite School for 2012. According to SMART Interactive Solutions: “SMART Showcase Elite Schools are those that have demonstrated an exceptional commitment in using a wide range of SMART products in the majority of classrooms to create appealing, interactive learning environments that increase student engagement and improve learning outcomes.” Lincoln Elementary was one of only 25 schools in the United States to receive this distinction. Approximately 98% of the classrooms at Lincoln Elementary have SMART Boards with CCC!
“We are delighted for Mike and pleased that SMART chose to bestow this award on such a passionate advocate of CCC! ,” added Jo-Ann Kratz, Senior Vice President, Curriculum and Technology at New Dimension Media. “The fact that Mike credits our service as a key component of his win tells us that we are doing something right!”
