In the middle of this school year I began using the flip class concept. Use of smart phones is an excellent tool to access content. Using it in the class eliminates most behavior problems. However, students become tempted by inappropriate websites. This means that educators must use security and monitoring techniques, challenging/interesting/engaging assignments and assessment tools that provide students immediate feed back. At first, this was overwhelming.

It is a very powerful tool, with so many innovative and amazing applications but, I agree the can be very distracting for some students. In HE that is mainly the student's responsibility, yet in K-12 teachers will have additional management difficulties.

It's great to see that people are finally catching on that it is the planning and not the device that will affect student outcomes. Tablets have the potential to revolutionize the way we teach and learn, yet also the potential to be the greatest distraction to affect schools.
