I am very supportive of the Ryan budget plan. It’s a bold and exciting effort on his part and on the part of the Republicans and it’s very much consistent with what I put out earlier. This budget deals with entitlement reform, tax policy, which as you know is very similar to the one that I put out and efforts to reign in excessive spending.

I question the opinions of this article's author. Using the term "slashing" to refer to a proposed Pell Grant decrease of $135/year seems over-dramatic.

Who is surprised by these ideas? The philosophical positions have been polarized. The sides are divided between helping those individuals who have traditionally been most disadvantaged improve their lots in life or assist those who control the bulk of the nation's wealth and political influence continue to prosper at a rate greater than the general population. I am curios as to how Mr. Ryan expects the poor to access "a robust menu of institutional options" without financial aid?

No one likes cuts particularly when they impact what we do or care about. But I am confident cuts can be made in a government program without jeopardizing the core mission. Isn't that all of us have had to do for the past 4 years?
