Press Release: ESL ReadingSmart Introduces Storybooks and Speaking Component
DALLAS (September 18, 2012) — Archipelago Learning, a PLATO Learning company, has introduced Newcomers’ Storybooks and a Speaking Component to ESL ReadingSmart.
“These enhancements to ESL ReadingSmart reinforce the already proven learning environment we offer to English language learners,” said Andy Frost, PLATO vice president for product management. “Research has shown that speaking English out loud helps build linguistic reflexes and encourages students to pay conscious attention to pronunciation of words. By offering a program that blends multiple language processes, we increase the likelihood that students will master the English language, and better equip teachers to help them in their journey towards fluency.”
The ESL ReadingSmart Newcomers’ Storybooks will help students engage with the English language by allowing them to read and interact with literature. All of the stories in this section will include pictures, simple sentences, and audio. These features help students easily follow along and comprehend the texts.
Additionally, the new Speaking Component will enable students to record themselves reading a text. The new speaking tool is another way for English language learners to practice their speaking skills. The speaking component will record students reading a text during a lesson. Students can then play it back and listen for fluency.
