Press Release: Aylon Samouha Joins Lighthouse Academies as New CEO
Framingham, MA, January 7, 2013 – We are pleased to announce that Mr. Aylon Samouha is the new Chief Executive Officer for Lighthouse Academies effective today.
Mr. Samouha comes to us with more than fifteen years of experience in education. Most recently he served as the Chief Schools Officer at Rocketship Education, where he led seven schools to maximize student achievement, staff development, and community engagement. Mr. Samouha led the regional and national teams that offered support in operations, instruction, and community engagement. He managed the design and strategy teams in charge of the academic model and blended learning, recruitment and professional development for teachers and leaders, and school operations. Nationally, he was also responsible expanding and “green-lighting” new schools and regions as part of an aggressive growth strategy.
Prior to joining Rocketship Education, Mr. Samouha served as Senior Vice President for Teacher Preparation, Support and Development for Teach For America. He led the execution of both pre-service training at TFA institutes and regional program support through corps members’ two-year teaching commitment. He was responsible for developing the long-term strategic plan for teacher training, corps member culture, staff development and student achievement measuring systems as well as managing the staff to meet achievement and effectiveness goals serving 8,500 teachers/corps members across 39 regions.
Prior to Teach For America, Mr. Samouha spent ten years with Kaplan Inc. Score! Educational Centers, where he helped lead national expansion. As Vice President of East Operations he led a team of 600 employees across 66 centers serving 29,000 families and worked with leadership to establish growth strategies, increase staff satisfaction and retention and improve service nationally.
Mr. Samouha earned a B.A. in English from Columbia University and has been recently accepted as a 2013 Aspen Fellow. He is also an accomplished jazz guitarist with two released CDs and regular performances throughout the Midwest.
Mr. Michael Ronan, the founder and previous Chief Executive Officer and President, will remain as President through June 30, 2013. Mr. Ronan founded Lighthouse Academies in 2003, opening the first school in the Bronx in 2004 (Bronx Lighthouse Charter School) and has grown the nonprofit network to include 21 schools and more than 6,300 scholars nationwide. Mr. Ronan will remain on the Board of Directors for Lighthouse Academies, Inc.
