MHTA will recognize Minnesota’s top technology companies and individuals at the Nov.6 awards ceremony
Sartell, MN, Sept. 17, 2013 – The Minnesota High Tech Association (MHTA) has named STEM Fuse as a finalist in the Start-Up category for the 2013 Tekne Awards, which will be held at the Minneapolis Convention Center on Wednesday, Nov. 6. The Tekne Awards honor Minnesota companies and individuals who have shown superior technology innovation and leadership.
Business leaders in Minnesota and nationwide cannot find the STEM (science, technology, engineering and math) talent they need to stay competitive. Students’ lagging performance and lack of interest in these fields are a critical reason why. For this reason, STEM Fuse has developed a line of K-12 curricula that teach STEM skills in a fun and engaging way. All of STEM Fuse’s courses provide hands-on, project based learning and prepare students with valuable 21st century skills, plus they cost considerably less than their competition. In under two years, STEM Fuse has courses being taught in over 3800 schools in all 50 states and 7 foreign countries.
“We develop courses for which there is a viable career path so the students can see a real-life application for the skills they are learning” said Carter Tatge, founder of STEM Fuse. “By piquing their interest in game design, mobile application development, biomedicine or health information technology, we are hoping students will continue that interest in college and go on to pursue STEM careers.”
Presented by the MHTA, the Tekne Awards annually recognize Minnesota’s best and brightest technology users and developers in innovation, development, education, commercialization and management. A full list of finalists is available online at http://www.tekneawards.org.
Recipients of the 2013 Tekne Awards will be announced at the award ceremony on Nov. 6. The event will begin with a VIP reception at 4:30 p.m., followed by general registration and reception at 5 p.m., dinner at 6 p.m., and the awards ceremony at 7 p.m. The event will be emceed by Paul Douglas, author, entrepreneur and meteorologist.
