Monthlong events focus on connected teaching, cyber security, and more

October is full of important education-related spotlights. Here, we’ve highlighted four important events, along with relevant resources, to help you and your teachers observe or implement concepts associated with each event.

National Cyber Security Month

The Department of Homeland Security [3] is celebrating the 10th anniversary of National Cyber Security Month with planned events and areas of emphasis throughout October. [Editor’s note: This site is not actively maintained during the federal government shutdown.]

StaySafeOnline.org [4], from the National Cyber Security Alliance, has made its cyber security awareness resources, events, and efforts available during October.

A Platform For Good [5] offers four compelling reasons why children should be online.

National Principals Month

Honor excellent principals this month on the National Principals Month site [6], and learn about how and why fellow school leaders are making a difference.

Follow the hashtag #prinmonth [7] on Twitter to keep the conversation going all month long.

The National Association of Elementary School Principals [8] and the National Association of Secondary School Principals [9], co-sponsors of National Principals Month, have a variety of resources to support and celebrate school leaders.

National Bullying Prevention Month

Pacer’s National Bullying Prevention Center [10]

The National Education Association’s bullying prevention resources can be found here [11].

Scenario Learning has made some of its bullying prevention resources available for free, including a course on cyberbullying [12].

Stomp Out Bullying [13] has outlined anti-bullying activities and goals for each Monday in October.
