Press Release: ASCD Promotes Katie Test to Lead Communications Unit
Alexandria, VA (10/3/13) – ASCD, the global community dedicated to excellence in learning, teaching, and leading, has appointed Katie Test as the association’s new communications manager. In her new role, Test will develop and direct ASCD’s organizational and strategic communications and public relations functions.
“We are pleased to promote Katie to lead the association’s communications unit,” said ASCD Executive Director and CEO Dr. Gene R. Carter. “Under her direction, ASCD’s communications unit will remain a highly responsive team with a focus on customer service and best practices. We look forward to the energy and forward thinking she brings to her new role.”
Among her many new responsibilities, Test will support the association’s public relations goals through social and traditional media outreach. This includes continuing the development and implementation of the ASCD’s nationally top-rated social media channels.
Test is a public relations and social media professional who, for nearly three years, has worked as a communications specialist coordinating media relations on behalf of ASCD’s programs, products, and services. During her tenure at ASCD, Test has developed and executed ASCD’s press and social media strategy for the association’s Annual Conference and Exhibit Show.
“We look forward to Katie taking on this new role,” said Chief Organizational Services Officer Deborah Hall-Pope. “Katie has played a key role in building the association’s traditional and social media relationships, and [she] has proved herself to be the right leader for ASCD’s communications unit.”
Prior to joining ASCD, Test worked in the Office of Family and Public Engagement for District of Columbia Public Schools, where she served as the point of contact for internal and external communications. Test also worked in communications for Durham Public Schools and Charlotte Mecklenburg Public Schools.
Test is a graduate of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, where she earned a bachelor’s degree in communications. For more information about ASCD programs, products, services, and membership, visit www.ascd.org.
