State College, Pennsylvania, Oct. 31, 2013 — Schoolwires® will deliver a keynote address at the Annual National Conference of K-12 School Safety Practice and Collaboration in China on the topic of creating an online safe and collaborative learning community for teachers, students and parents.

The conference will explore the challenges and opportunities in K-12 education brought about by the booming use of social technologies. The keynote on Oct. 31 will be given by Dr. Lin Zhou, Vice President, Platform Delivery & Asian Operations, Schoolwires.

At the conference, Dr. Zhou will discuss the steps that schools and departments of education should take to create an online safe, social and educational environment for students. Some important elements of the environment include providing content moderation and e-content filtering capabilities, and enabling engagement of parents so that they can participate with their children and feel comfortable with their child’s use of social technologies.

“Technology has the potential to support the sharing of rich and engaging resources between teachers, teachers and students, and teachers and parents; however, schools need to take the proper steps to create an online safe social environment for their students,” said Dr. Zhou.

Schoolwires has a subsidiary in Beijing that promotes and sells the company’s products and services in China, and also includes a research and engineering center. Also, Schoolwires developed a virtual international classroom exchange program between the US and China. Called Greenleaf™, the program is designed to help students become international collaborators, researchers and global citizens. It combines an engaging curriculum with a suite of instructional and social networking tools, along with a team of specialists to ensure that participants experience both their cultural differences and their similarities.

“We are honored to be invited to present at this important event and to share our expertise with educators in China,” said Christiane Crawford, President and Chief Executive Officer, Schoolwires. “We have a great deal of experience and many insights to offer about creating engaging and safe online social environments. We are pleased to share them and help Chinese schools promote and implement new technologies.”
