Three Digital Learning Programs Honored as Best of 2013 in Prestigious Ed-Tech Awards Program’s 31st Year

NEW YORK — Nov. 6, 2013 — For the fourth consecutive year, Pearson leads the prestigious “Tech & Learning” magazine Awards of Excellence competition with honors for three of its digital learning programs. iLit, WriteToLearn and Zeos are honored in the 31st year of this awards program honoring K-12 technology products that break new ground as well as those that added significant enhancements to proven education tools.

The winning products will be featured in the December 2013 issue of “Tech & Learning” magazine, as well as on the website.

Illustrative of Pearson’s leadership in the development of digital learning tools for the range of devices used in schools today, iLit, earned the Award of Excellence for New Product. A core curriculum for struggling readers, iLit is designed to meet the national crisis of students who simply cannot read at grade level and by the time they reach high school, are dropping out, checking out, or acting out. The first and only complete instructional solution built and delivered on iPad, iLit offers personalized learning support, engaging interactivities, and reward systems that motivate students and track progress. The strategies and scaffolding in iLit, when implemented to fidelity, can yield as high as a two-grade-level improvement in reading achievement.

Earning the Award of Excellence for Best Upgraded Program for the third consecutive year, Pearson’s WriteToLearn exemplifies the company’s commitment to continually enhancing its proven programs. Pearson’s online literacy tool that accurately assesses writing, WriteToLearn returns immediate targeted feedback and provides grade 4-12 students with the foundation for building writing and reading comprehension skills while expanding word knowledge. WriteToLearn supports learning strategies that build Common Core skills through practicing essay writing and summarization. It features nearly 1,700 essay and summary writing activities, providing an overall score, spelling and grammar feedback and hits/tips to scaffold writing. English Learner support includes word prediction to help students learn to spell; and multilingual support tools that translate in Spanish and Chinese; text-to-speech; embedded picture/text dictionary; and spot word translation.
