edWeb.net and Monarch Teaching Technologies partner to bring technology innovations to teachers working with students with autism
PRINCETON, NJ, November 13, 2013 – One of the fastest growing areas of innovation in education is in the field of autism where technology solutions are helping students with autism to learn and communicate more effectively. edWeb.net has seen this trend in the professional learning community they launched in 2010 for teachers working with autism.
edWeb.net and Monarch Teaching Technologies are partnering to provide more assistance for educators looking for information on technology innovations that can help their students. They have launched a series of webinars, as part of the edWeb autism community, that focus specifically on technology innovations for students with autism.
edWeb’s professional learning community on autism, created in 2011 with the assistance of Eden Autism Services, was designed to support and provide professional development opportunities, learning resources and a platform to collaborate for teachers who work with students with autism and special needs. The online community of more than 5,000 educators share best practices, resources, visual learning supports, technology and learning tools/techniques for students with autism and other special learning needs.
“Many of us know friends or family members who have children with autism. My nephew has autism, so one of my first goals with edWeb was to create a community to support teachers who work with children with autism. We’ve seen such a tremendous response to our webinars on using technology to help children with autism. Monarch Teaching Technologies is a leader in this field, so we are delighted that we can partner with them to focus on all the ways technology can help,” said Lisa Schmucki, Founder and CEO of edWeb.net.
Monarch Teaching Technologies, the developer of the software system VizZle, will bring its network of leading practitioners, experts and thought leaders to assist and educate the community. The series of free webinars, hosted by Lauren Stafford, M.Ed., Vice President, Research and Professional Development for Monarch Teaching Technologies, began this fall with webinars on Universal Design for Learning and Technology and iPads and Autism. Upcoming webinars are Let’s Get Visual, Visual Learning and Autism and Teaching Reading and Writing through Social Language Contexts.
“This is a whole new era of opportunities for autism services in schools,” according to Lauren Stafford, Vice President of Research and Instructional Design at Monarch Teaching Technologies. “This series presents the most promising innovations making a difference in special education.”
Educators can join the free Teaching Students with Autism community on edWeb to stay informed about upcoming webinars, join in on discussions with peers, and gain access to valuable resources.
