VHS and VISnet Partner to Bring High-Quality Online Courses to Schools
VISnet Member Schools Can Now Enroll Students in Virtual High School Courses
January 6, 2013, Maynard, MA — The Virtual High School (http://www.theVirtualHighSchool.org), the nonprofit pioneer of K-12 online learning, today announced they have partnered with VISnet (Virtual Independent Schools Network). VISnet has 70 member schools in California, Florida, Georgia, North Carolina and Virginia. These schools now have access to The Virtual High School’s (VHS) 200+ online courses for an affordable tuition, and have already begun enrolling students for the Spring, 2014 semester.
“The ability for independent schools to supplement their in-person curriculum with high-quality elective and Advanced Placement® (AP®) courses that students need and want is a huge benefit,” said Jeffrey A. Elliott, President & CEO of VHS. “We’ve been looking to expand our presence in these states so this partnership is a win/win for both organizations.”
As a not-for-profit national educational consortium designed to support schools in their development, and sustainable learning models, VISnet began as an outgrowth of the North Carolina Association of Independent Schools (NCAIS). The organization provides member schools with online resources for blended classrooms, supplemental academic courses for students, professional development opportunities to support innovative teaching and learning and a robust network for collaboration.
“For some time now, our schools have been lobbying to bring VHS on board so we are delighted to be able to offer this as a member benefit,” said Linda Nelson, Executive Director of VISnet. “We selected VHS because of their longstanding commitment and proven results in online learning as well as a course selection that’s second to none.”
The VHS mission is to provide students with access to high quality online and blended learning experiences, while supporting educators with the professional development and services they need in order to provide an effective 21st century education to every student. VHS partner schools have access to a wide range of core, elective, and AP® courses that inspire, ignite and deepen learning as well as enable students to develop independent learning skills, explore college majors and careers, earn credits and participate in global classrooms. Courses are taught by highly qualified teachers who are specially trained in online teaching best practices, and are certified in their subject areas.
