Solution is lauded by Superintendents for providing instructional support to SPED and ELL teachers
PALO ALTO, Calif. (Feb. 11, 2014) — No one knew what to expect at the Shark Tank, a new and innovative feature at the recent California Association of Latino Superintendents and Administrators (CALSA) 8th Annual Focus on Results Symposium. 44 companies were given the opportunity to pitch their products and services to educational leaders from throughout the west coast in a format inspired by the popular television show.
“One of the main goals of the Focus on Results Symposium is to facilitate quality discussions and an exchange of ideas between educators and companies that leads to actionable feedback,” said Tom Davis, Director of Corporate Partnerships for CALSA. “This year’s activities, including our usual focus group sessions and the Shark Tank, sparked incredible buzz and stimulated dialogue about how to utilize proven teaching and learning strategies with the infusion of technology to best support our teachers, students and parents.”
Goalbook was chosen as this year’s winner of the Shark Tank. Company leadership presented its Toolkit, a platform created to support educators in designing instructional objectives for special education and English language learner students that are aligned to standards and differentiated. Goalbook combines pedagogical research with technology to provide teachers with an infrastructure for continued learning.
“Seeing Goalbook alone made this conference worth attending. The week before, I met with 65 special educators in my district and they asked for support around developing IEPs and instructional goals aligned to Common Core,” said David Cash, Superintendent of Santa Barbara Unified School District, who was one of the “sharks” charged with judging company pitches.
“The product is great, the people are better,” said Kevin Silberberg, Superintendent of Panama-Buena Vista Union School District, commenting on Goalbook. “We are impressed by the people behind Goalbook.”
Launched in 2011 by two former educators, Goalbook has formed partnerships with more than 200 districts in 40 states. Its repository of research-based content spans pre-K to grade 12 in academic and social emotional resources.
“The CALSA network provides an incredible opportunity to facilitate deep discussions with experienced educators and leaders who are dedicated to their students,” said Daniel Jhin Yoo, co-founder and CEO of Goalbook. “With their guidance and feedback, we continue to improve our solutions and further our mission to empower teachers to ensure success and equity for all students.”
Goalbook’s mission is to empower teachers to ensure access and equity for all students.
