Countdown to Annual CUE 2014 Conference
– Teachers, Ed Tech & Best Practices Featured Throughout –
Walnut Creek, CA – March 13, 2014 – This year’s Annual CUE Conference, “CUE the Learning”, opens in Palm Springs, California in just 7 days. Taking place March 20 – 22, 2014, the Annual CUE 2014 Conference features Keynote speakers Sal Khan, LeVar Burton, and Dan Meyer. The Annual CUE Conference brings together over 5,000 teachers and administrators, 300+ educator-led sessions, keynote and spotlight speakers, and hands-on workshops. Peer-led poster sessions, CUE Tips and an exhibit hall featuring the latest in educational technology resources and products round out the Conference experience.
“Each year, the Annual CUE Conference celebrates innovation in education,” said Mike Lawrence, Executive Director for CUE. “This year’s event marks 35 years since the first CUE conference and a 20% leap in attendance over last year. We also will be presenting a vision of the future of education and of the organization moving forward.”
CUE the Learning is this year’s theme, and topics explored during the three-day conference range from 1:1 and Blended Learning to Common Core and Flipped Learning. The event’s diverse program offerings are geared toward K20 educators from all disciplines, administrators, policy leaders, and parents. On-site registration opens Wednesday, March 19 from 4:00-7:00 pm, continuing Thursday and Friday morning at 7:00 am and Saturday at 7:30 am. Educational heroes will be recognized through the CUE Awards program, several ITM Live! interviews will be captured and published online, the 2014 board candidates will be introduced, and, of course, there will be CUE Karaoke!
Annual CUE 2014 Conference Keynote Speakers Include:
Salman Khan, founder of the Khan Academy nonprofit, will provide the Closing Keynote on Saturday, March 22 from 2:45 to 3:45 pm on the “One Room Schoolhouse: Education Reimagined.” Khan’s presentation will showcase how the more than 5,100 instructional videos,100,000 problems, and 10 million unique users per month of the Khan Academy are helping reshape the world of education.
LeVar Burton, host and producer of PBS’s Peabody Award-winning program Reading Rainbow from 1983 to 2009, will give his presentation Friday, March 21 during the General Session from 8:00 a.m. to 9:45 a.m. Burton’s presentation will explore digital literacy and the new RRKidz app.
Dan Meyer, math teacher and blogger, will be CUE’s Kickoff Keynote speaker on Thursday, March 20 at 4:30 pm. Dan Meyer is currently a doctoral candidate at Stanford University in the field of math education. Meyer will speak on Capturing, Sharing, and Resolving Perplexity, and will describe how “perplexity” is one of the scarcest resources in the classroom and how to pick tools and technology to maximize it.
Annual CUE 2014 Conference Spotlight Speakers Include:
Mark Coppin, an Apple Distinguished Educator, is Director of Assistive Technology at the Anne Carlsen Center in Jamestown, North Dakota. Presenting nationally and internationally on a broad range of topics from technology and teaching, special education, assistive technology, and autism, Mark brings his considerable knowledge of successful strategies for using the iPad for diverse learners. Mark is a speaker for the Diverse Learners Symposium. The Diverse Learners Symposium will expand the outreach of CUE to the Assistive Technology Community and to those seeking to increase their knowledge of Universal Design for Learning and implementation of Assistive Technology supports that expand the world of language and access to learning for students with disabilities.
