Press Release: Massachusetts Adopts Torsh TALENT™ for Early Education and Childcare
NEW YORK, April 15, 2014 /PRNewswire-iReach/ — Torsh Inc. (www.torsh.co) is proud to announce that it is partnering with the state of Massachusetts to introduce TALENT, its video-based coaching and feedback solution to early education instructors across the state as part of Massachusetts’s EEC Peer Assistance and Coaching pilot. The Massachusetts Department of Early Education and Childcare http://www.eec.state.ma.us/pac.aspx, will use the online video-based collaboration and analytics platform to support coaching and professional development for early child care and out-of-school-time education providers. Torsh Inc.’s TALENT will facilitate collaboration among Massachusetts EEC providers and coaches by providing a secure platform for video upload, reflection, discussion, and feedback in support of educator growth initiatives.
Research shows that coaching and individualized feedback in early learning environments can improve outcomes for children. With that in mind, the Massachusetts Department of Early Education and Childcare developed the Peer Assistance and Coaching (PAC) model for educators working with students from pre-kindergarten to age eight. The PAC model pairs early education professionals across the state with peer-coaches who provide feedback and support. TALENT provides the necessary vehicle for coaches to observe and support mentees remotely.
Using Torsh Inc.’s TALENT mobile app, early education providers can easily capture and upload videos of their practice to their private online community. Teachers can then collaborate around these videos with their coaches, and receive notes or rubric-based feedback. Audio transcription services make video observations accessible to hearing-impaired users, while TALENT’s data analytics provide actionable insight into the efficacy of the PAC program.
“TALENT is a great platform for engaging teachers in reflective practice. TALENT can be used either asynchronously or synchronously and it enhances professional development when it is paired with face to face training. I think that it should be a part of any teacher preparation program, or ongoing coaching project in which practitioners reflect on theory to practice. As part of the PAC pilot, it is an excellent supporting tool in improving the quality of Massachusetts’s early childhood programs through a peer to peer coaching model,” says Lisa Van Thiel, PAC Evaluation, Senior Early Childhood Specialist, Institute for Community Inclusion, Adjunct CEHD faculty University of Massachusetts, Boston.
Torsh Inc. is excited to position itself as a thought-leader in video-based professional development for early education and childcare providers, says Torsh Inc. CEO Courtney Williams. “We’re thrilled to be working with the State of Massachusetts. Massachusetts is a national leader in education policy and student achievement and we’re pleased that they chose TALENT as their platform to enable remote based coaching and feedback for early education instructors across the state. We firmly believe that a key element in closing the achievement gap will be our ability to significantly improve early childhood outcomes and we look forward to working with Massachusetts as they lead the nation in rethinking the way we support the growth and professional learning of educators.”
You can meet with Torsh at EEC’s Spring STEM conference on May 22nd, where they will deliver a session with Katy Bainbridge, Co-Founder of Align, Assess, Achieve, LLC and Judy Goldberg, Master Coach.
