STEM East, Texarkana ISD recognized for leadership at Washington, D.C. event
WASHINGTON, D.C. (May 5, 2014) – The International Association for STEM Leaders (IASL) recognized two long-standing Pitsco Education partners with awards at the organization’s STEM Leadership Summit in Washington, D.C., April 24-25, 2014.
Former Tennessee Congressman Zach Wamp presented the awards to recipients including:
• NCEast Alliance: STEM East (North Carolina), which received the STEM Economic Development and Community Engagement Leadership Award.
• Texarkana (Texas) ISD, which received the Comprehensive School District STEM Leadership Award.
STEM East was singled out based on its creation of a regional network that facilitates private/public partnerships, curriculum development, internships, continuing education, and private partner support of regional education and workforce improvement.
Pitsco Education has worked closely with STEM East officials to implement STEM labs in numerous schools throughout the 13-county Eastern Region. STEM East Executive Director Steve Hill acknowledged Pitsco’s role in the organization’s success.
“Through the development of a public and private STEM support network that includes proactive partners such as Pitsco, we can develop a workforce education process that is responsive to the needs of the economy and service oriented towards students,” Hill said. “Pitsco is a leading example of good corporate citizenship, and we are proud to be associated with them.”
Texarkana ISD was selected for its award on the basis of its extensive integration of K-12 STEM curricula and its designation by the state of Texas as a role model for STEM education.
“Strategic partnerships are critical to our STEM success, and Pitsco has been a valuable asset in our STEM pipeline,” said Texarkana ISD Director of STEM Education Ronda Jameson. “We appreciate the recognition and support Pitsco has provided our program.”
Pitsco Vice President of Education Matt Frankenbery attended the IASL awards ceremony at the Walter E. Washington Convention Center, and he proudly echoed IASL’s assessment of the two award winners.
“STEM East and Texarkana ISD are not only shining examples of entities that embrace Pitsco STEM solutions, but they also are national thought leaders in how STEM education should be embraced at the community level as a means to strengthen the local workforce,” Frankenbery said.
