Press Release: Edgenuity Highlights Online and Blended Learning Success and Innovation in Michigan
Flexible Learning Solutions Empower Teachers and Students across Michigan to Drive Better Academic Outcomes
Scottsdale, AZ – May 13, 2014 – Edgenuity, a leading provider of online and blended learning solutions, is celebrating the success of its school partners in Michigan, shining a spotlight on schools across the state that are using Edgenuity offerings to meet a wide range of student needs and help students, teachers and schools reach their academic goals.
• The Frontiers Program at Wyoming Public Schools in Wyoming, MI is offering alternative academic programming to students who desire increased flexibility and personalization in their learning. Students design a high school path tailored to their particular learning preferences and academic goals, selecting courses based on interest and concept mastery rather than grade cohort. The program has pioneered a model that drives higher graduation rates than the traditional school setting, and even has some students graduate two or three years ahead of schedule.
• Berrien Springs Public Schools of Berrien Springs, MI is utilizing both online and blended learning for full-time high school students as well as for home schooled and alternative education students. This partnership offers advanced curriculum, which would otherwise be unavailable for students, in order to prepare students for college and career. It also focuses on adding flexibility for students who are behind in credits. In addition to average scores on key tests such as the ACT increasing because of Edgenuity’s programs, the district maintains high academic success on the ACT compared with other schools in the state.
• Dearborn Public Schools in Dearborn, MI is bolstering graduation rates across its various high schools, working in conjunction with Edgenuity. By offering online credit recovery courses to students as soon as they miss a credit, Dearborn is helping students stay on track and graduate on time. At Dearborn Magnet High School, Dearborn’s alternative high school, students who have experienced difficulties at their home high school can pursue coursework in a small, blended learning setting, using online classes to work at their own pace and receive one-on-one support from teachers. Since implementing Edgenuity and a blended learning format, Dearborn has seen four-year graduation rates at their alternative high school rise from 27% to nearly 67%, with 80% of students graduating in five years.
“Online and blended learning solutions are most effective when schools and districts integrate offerings like Edgenuity into carefully designed programs tailored to the specific goals of their students,” said Sari Factor, CEO of Edgenuity. “Our school partners in Michigan exemplify this model, approaching instructional innovation in ways that empower students and teachers to achieve academic success.”
