Press Release: ‘Inquiry’ Earns SIIA Education CODiE Award
Learning.com wins prestigious education industry award in ‘Best Instructional Solution in Other Curriculum Areas’ category
Portland, Ore. (May 14, 2014) – Learning.com, a leader in delivering digital curriculum and assessments to districts and schools, announces that its Inquiry solution has earned an SIIA Education CODiE Award as “Best Instructional Solution in Other Curriculum Areas.” SIIA announced Learning.com as a winner during a special awards ceremony at the Education Industry Summit. Inquiry provides a project-based approach to teaching 21st century skills and preparing students for success in today’s digital world.
Specifically developed for K-8 students, Inquiry includes six core curriculum projects per grade level. Each project is based on a theme that continues from grade to grade, building on previously acquired subject-area knowledge and technology skills.
“This honor reinforces the positive response Inquiry is receiving from schools and districts,” said Keith Oelrich, CEO of Learning.com. “We are pleased that, through this rigorous evaluation process, educators and judges see the potential educational gains students and educators can experience with Inquiry.”
The SIIA CODiE Awards is the premier award program for the software and information industry. All nominated products and services were first reviewed by a group of tech-savvy educators from across the nation, whose evaluations determined 146 finalists. SIIA members then reviewed these finalists and voted to select 31 CODiE Award winners.
“SIIA’s 2014 Education CODiE Award winners are some of the most innovative, high-impact education products out there,” said SIIA Vice President for the Education Division Karen Billings. “We congratulate all of this year’s CODiE Award winners, and thank them for the contributions they have made to the education industry.”
Inquiry provides ready-to-use projects that begin with pre-tests that prescribe individualized instruction to ensure students have the technology skills required for the project. Students then complete the projects by conducting research, collaborating with their classmates, creating digital media and giving presentations. After finishing a project, students complete a short reflection assignment to evaluate their work. Teachers can track individual progress throughout the project and record final work in an online grade book.
