Press Release: ‘Great Expectations’ Unveils Summer Learning Opportunities for Educators
Taught by teachers and for teachers, ‘Great Expectations’ summer professional development training will be held in Okla., Texas, and Mich.
NORMAN, Okla. (May 21, 2014) – Great Expectations, a non-profit foundation that provides intensive professional development to teachers and administrators, will be holding summer training for PreK-12 educators at multiple locations in Oklahoma, Texas and Michigan. Teachers who have successfully implemented the best practices, methods and theories of Great Expectations in their classrooms during the school year will provide instruction.
As the organization’s core training experience, the Summer Institutes feature practical strategies educators can take back to their classrooms. Great Expectations instructors, who are educators themselves, model the learning strategies and community-building activities they use successfully in their own classrooms. First-time participants partake in the four-day course and learn the GE Methodology. Returning participants and administrators can choose from advanced courses, each lasting two days, which are content-specific to core academic subject areas.
“I walked in with trepidation, but by the end of the third day, I was on fire and inspired,” said Montie Koehn, an educator who credits Great Expectations with transforming her attitude toward teaching. “Whatever position I take on, I always go back to the Great Expectations methodology. Most importantly, it changes hearts, instills hope and creates a learning environment filled with mutual respect. It always results in increased academic excellence.”
Great Expectations emphasizes academic excellence and a climate of mutual respect. Over 44,000 educators have attended Great Expectations training since 1991, and more than 250,000 students are taught by Great Expectations teachers every year.
