Press Release: MSU launches school improvement website for educators
Michigan State University’s Office of K-12 Outreach, as part of the state program for Title l Priority and Focus schools and districts, has launched MI Toolkit, a new website to help educators in these schools improve teaching and learning.
MI Toolkit is one of the ongoing projects of the Office of K-12 Outreach in partnership with the Michigan Department of Education (MDE), the Michigan Association of Intermediate School Administrators (MAISA) and Michigan’s intermediate school districts. It was developed under a $7 million grant to support MI Excel, the statewide system of support for Title l public schools.
The new website is designed to support district and school leaders as they work to improve achievement and eliminate achievement gaps.
Focus schools are those identified as having significant achievement gaps in learning; Priority schools have been identified as such because of low levels of overall achievement.
MI Toolkit contains information, research, tools and best practices that are presented in a format practitioners will find useful and easy to use as they work to improve student achievement.
For Focus schools seeking to eliminate achievement gaps, MI Toolkit features articles by MSU faculty experts offering insights and tools that practitioners need to address learning gaps among students of poverty, students of color, special education students, and English language learners. For Priority schools, interactive tools from Education Resource Strategies will be added to guide district and school leaders in optimizing their resources as they work to raise achievement.
The website also features upcoming MI Excel events, bulletins and announcements from the Michigan Department of Education and the latest in state and national education news that may impact Michigan schools.
Barbara Markle, assistant dean of K-12 outreach, said she hopes the website will provide a virtual tool for all educators, in addition to the 36 district improvement facilitators working with educators across Michigan as part of MI Excel.
“While the site is specifically geared toward educators from statewide Focus or Priority schools, it offers useful information for any educator seeking to improve teaching and learning,” says Markle.
The site can be found at www.mitoolkit.org.
