BOISE, Idaho – GoGo Labs, Inc., announced today that professional game writer and desiger Lee Sheldon will deliver the keynote address at QuestBoise 2014, a two-day online event for teachers and others interested in using the science of gaming to engage students.
Sheldon is an associate professor in the games and simulation arts and sciences program at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in Troy, New York. He is the author of Character Development and Storytelling for Games, which is the standard text in the field, and The Multiplayer Classroom: Designing Coursework as a Game.
His keynote address is titled “The Persuasion Games.” He plans to discuss not only how to design classes as games that persuade students to want to learn, but also how to persuade parents, school boards, and regulatory committees of the value of such educational tools.
QuestBoise 2014 is GoGo Labs’ second annual “virtual unconference.” At the free, online event – scheduled for July 30 and 31 – Sheldon and seven other speakers will lead participants as they explore ways to use games to enhance classroom learning. Topics will include quest design, guild sites, and the Open Badges Initiative.
