Press Release: New Statewide K–12 Virtual Public School Names Lead Administrator
TEC Connections Academy (TECCA) Commonwealth Virtual School hires education veteran Dr. Tyler Page
Walpole, MA (July 25, 2014) – TEC Connections Academy Commonwealth Virtual School (TECCA), the state’s newest full-time, tuition-free virtual public school for students in grades K–12 across the state, announced that veteran educator Dr. Tyler Page has been named lead administrator for the school’s inaugural year. Currently enrolling students in grades K–12 across Massachusetts and set to open this August, TECCA brings a fully accredited online public education directly into the homes of students in grades K–12 throughout the state.
Dr. Page brings 12 years of experience as a school principal, and more than 30 years of education expertise to TECCA, including serving as a Rhode Island College professor where he taught leadership development courses to future administrators. He most recently served as an administrator for the Natick Public Schools in Massachusetts. Dr. Page has a PhD in educational leadership and a Master of Education (MEd) in principal preparation and school leadership from Boston College, as well as a Bachelor of Science in Education from Frostburg State University in Maryland.
“Experience has taught me that all students have the ability to learn and be successful if they are given the right supports: TECCA expands the educational tools that are available to students, providing a personalized education that has been molded to their individual needs and learning style,” Dr. Page, TECCA Lead Administrator, said.
Dr. Page will work from the TECCA’s teaching center in Walpole to manage the school operations and provide leadership to create an exceptional virtual school for students statewide. The school is currently hiring Massachusetts-based administrative staff and teachers.
“I am most looking forward to this newest venture in helping students who don’t fit into the traditional school setting,” Dr. Page added. “At present, we are finalizing the hiring of teachers and filling out our administrative staff. For TECCA, we are looking for gifted educators who have knowledge and experience in melding technology with learning; educational leaders who have a core value that all children can learn. We want professionals who bring empathy and expertise to the profession, as well as a passion for helping individuals realize their potential.”
TECCA will combine Massachusetts-certified teachers, an award-winning curriculum, technology tools, engaging electives, and social experiences to create a supportive and successful online learning program for families and students who want an individualized approach to education. Learning from home, TECCA students will work closely with teachers using detailed daily lesson plans that can be personalized to meet individual student needs. A parent, or another adult “Learning Coach,” will monitor progress in the home. As a public school, there are no fees or tuition to attend and all students are required to take the same state assessments as traditional school students.
Enrollment for the 2014-15 school year is underway, and the school can initially enroll up to 1,000 students. Families interested in learning more are invited to attend an online or in-person information session. For additional information, visit www.ConnectionsAcademy.com/TECCA.
