d’Vinci Interactive recently launched an updated version of UnlockingLifesCode.org to coincide with the opening of the traveling human genome exhibit and to make the site the primary educational tool for the National Human Genome Research Institute (NHGRI).
For the last year, the website was the companion to a Smithsonian Museum of Natural History exhibit. The exhibit celebrated the 10th anniversary of the sequencing of the human genome and the 60th anniversary of Watson and Crick’s discovery of the double helix structure of DNA. The exhibit will now travel around the country, starting in San Diego, CA, extending its reach to an even broader audience.
While the initial Unlockinglifescode.org website focused primarily on the Smithsonian exhibit, the new version concentrates more on genomic educational outreach. The multimedia-rich website now features a new events page design, new learning section for teachers and students, a link to featured stories about genomic science and a look at the traveling schedule for the exhibit. The newly-refreshed site also includes social media integration, including a Twitter, Facebook and Pinterest feed, for easy sharing. Future plans for the site include adding web interactives based on the interactive experiences that are part of the exhibit.
