Boxlight upgrades collaboration software

New software is designed to make collaboration easier

Boxlight is replacing its legacy software on its projectors and interactive flat panels with a new platform, called Oktopus [1]. The switch is designed to move classrooms to a greater emphasis on touch-based technology.

The new software features more than 70 subject-specific tools for collaboration in math, science, literacy, and geography. Handwriting conversion in the software lets teachers or students write math equations to be translated into text. Multimedia and text can be pushed out from interactive whiteboards to student devices. And a new polling system, operational within a LAN, supports 5-40 users and makes results immediately available from student devices. The polling is device and browser agnostic and supports iOS, Android, Chromebook, Mac, and Windows.

Additional features include screen capture recording, web camera support, multiple-language recognition, and up to 10 simultaneous touch points, depending on the device.

“The combination of Boxlight interactive products and Oktopus for Boxlight classroom learning software will provide the most powerful, easy-to-use, and modern solution for instructors in the today’s touch-based world. We have combined the best in our interactive technologies with the most robust, flexible, and easy to use and understand interactive software into one ideal solution.” Says Jeremy Peterson, a product manager with the company.

The software is updated free of charge monthly; a cloud solution is forthcoming.
