Ontario district implements cloud-based LMS Edsby

Rollout to teachers, students, and parents now under way across region

edsby-lmsEdsby, a cloud-based education engagement platform that connects K-12 students, teachers, and parents using smartphones, tablets, and the web, has been selected by Kawartha Pine Ridge District School Board (KPRDSB) in Ontario for district-wide deployment after a rigorous procurement and evaluation process.

The district of 34,000 students and 3,450 staff wanted a solution that tied in tightly with the board’s existing IT systems and that supported its approach to assessment and reporting for all teachers and students uniformly in the district.

“Edsby integrated very quickly and effectively into our key district infrastructure, including our student information system and our authentication system,” said Ron Plaizier, CIO at KPRDSB.

“This has been key in getting teachers on board quickly; all of their classes and class rosters are automatically managed for them by Edsby, and they log in using their standard district credentials.”

Edsby has been designed to be easily customizable so that each organization can have Edsby support its unique approach to assessment.

“At KPRDSB we are working collectively to implement and align our practice with Growing Success, the Ontario Ministry of Education’s policy for assessment, evaluation and reporting,” said Jennifer McIlmoyle-Parsons, Instructional Leadership Consultant at the board. “Edsby supports educators to collect and reflect upon observations about student learning through the categories of the Ministry’s achievement charts while expressing ongoing learning using levels, and progress indicators before evaluation.

“Communication with students and parents has been designed to emphasize learning and provide teachers opportunities to apply professional judgment at critical reporting timeframes. Using the calendars, progress indicators and ongoing learning focus posted by teachers, parents are supported with information about their child’s learning journey,” said McIlmoyle-Parsons.

KPRDSB joins the growing list of education organizations in the U.S. and Canada now using Edsby.

“We’re delighted to have Kawartha Pine Ridge as a customer and we look forward to expanding the ways Edsby can contribute to engagement and positive student learning experiences in their district,” said John Myers, President of Edsby.
