Kajeet providing free wi-fi to former CLEAR/Sprint WiMAX customers

Trade-in program provides internet access to districts affected by shutdown

kajeet-wifiKajeet is launching a special program to keep students connected to the internet at home for those school districts affected by the CLEAR/Sprint WiMAX shutdown next month. The shutdown affects metro areas across the country.

In an effort to ensure students are not without wireless service in the middle of the school term, the company will allow schools to trade-in unusable WiMAX devices issued by other companies in exchange for a Kajeet SmartSpot—a filtered wi-fi hotspot—at no additional cost.

As Sprint improves its 4G LTE network throughout the U.S., CLEAR WiMAX towers will be decommissioned and service to all CLEAR/Sprint devices will be discontinued. Service to those devices will end on Nov. 6, 2015.

Beginning immediately, Kajeet will partner with school districts to trade-in unusable WiMAX devices obtained from other companies in exchange for Kajeet SmartSpot devices. Districts will need to confirm their service is on the WiMAX network with another company, and Kajeet will provide a new free SmartSpot for each received device.
