EBSCO Information Services (EBSCO) and Mackin have partnered to make EBSCO eBooks available to order on the Mackin.com ecommerce site. The collaboration between EBSCO and Mackin, a leading provider of high-quality library and classroom materials to librarians and educators in K-12 schools, gives MackinVIA customers the opportunity to choose from a wide range of relevant EBSCO eBooks titles from within their preferred acquisition platform. MackinVIA, the free digital resource management system, is used by over 9 million students and has recently won the Best of Show Award at ISTE 2016 for the second year in a row. Read more [1].

The International Society for Technology in Education announced Cheryl Scott Williams as interim CEO following the abrupt departure of former CEO Brian Lewis. A nationally recognized leader in education reform and improvement with extensive experience leading nonprofit boards and building successful board-staff relationships, Williams was most recently the executive director of the Learning First Alliance. She will lead the work of the organization while the ISTE Board conducts a search for its next CEO. Read more [2].

Teachers across the nation can now engage students in authentic problem solving around the science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) skills required to design self-driving vehicles for harsh environments. While students might think that the first self-driving vehicles will be designed by the automotive or consumer technology industries, engineers from Caterpillar Inc., the world’s largest heavy equipment manufacturer, have already deployed high-tech, autonomous haul trucks to improve safety and productivity in mines around the world. myON, a business unit of Capstone and leading provider of personalized literacy solutions for the K-12 marketplace, will form a partnership with Manor Independent School District. Access to myON will play a key role in the district’s mission to further engage the community in closing the literacy gap. The myON implementation and renewed focus on literacy is part of the district’s new long-range plan as a certified Texas Education Agency (TEA) District of Innovation. With this designation, the district is exempt from certain sections of the Texas Education Code that inhibit the goals of the district as outlined in the locally adopted Innovation Plan. Superintendent Dr. Royce Avery plans to use the TEA certification to turn innovative ideas into a reality by forming community partnerships, closing the literacy gap, and leveraging technology.
