In the age of technology, it’s important to use the plethora of apps, online tools, and learning platforms to our advantage, and not just use technology for technology’s sake.

Many companies realize the importance of learning and collaboration, and have developed systems that help promote this, as well as education as a whole. Here are a number of online tools that can benefit both students and teachers, either in the classroom or in their own personal lives.

1. ClassDojo

ClassDojo aims to bring communities together by giving them the tools to improve education for everyone. Teachers use ClassDojo to communicate with students and parents; allowing them to provide instant feedback to their students as well as allow both parties to track the students’ performance in class. Using this method of communication, it allows teachers, parents and students to stay connected and keep track of lessons and progress in real-time.

2. Storybird

This art-inspired creative platform encourages students and teachers to create visual stories within seconds! It inspires users to boost their writing skills by offering 700+ lessons, writing prompts and more that were created by experts on the platform. Users can choose from multiple writing formats and publish their works online to receive feedback from other teachers, professionals and authors. Teachers can also create interactive books on the app that can be emailed or shared with their students.

3. Participate (formerly eduClipper)

Participate allows teachers and students to share educational materials in real-time. You can collect and store resources while connecting with other educators to learn and collaborate together. Teachers also have the opportunity to create a virtual classroom and create a portfolio where all their work will be stored.

4. Nearpod

Nearpod lets users create interactive lessons in minutes and integrates with other learning platforms such as Schoology and Canvas. It allows teachers to create using polls, open-ended questions, quizzes, 3D objects, Draw It and even VR! There are also thousands of lessons online from expert educators that are customizable to fit the needs of every student.

5. bulb: Digital Portfolios

With bulb, students can save and showcase their works and projects on one platform! It provides a space to create and showcase projects to the community, and allows users to access their portfolios at any time. Projects can be shared with teachers, who would then be able to track the progress and note how much effort each student has put into their work.

6. Coursera

Coursera is an online learning platform that offers courses, specializations and degrees to users, from top Ivy League universities such as Yale University, Harvard University and the University of Pennsylvania. Users can choose from hundreds of free courses or even choose to get a degree or certificate through Coursera.

7. Focus Booster

Focus Booster makes use of the Pomodoro technique in order to boost productivity. The app helps users keep track of time during different tasks and helps them understand how time is spent on a day-to-day basis. Using the Pomodoro technique helps users avoid distractions and maintain their focus.

8. Crowdsignal

Crowd Signal offers a quick way to create quizzes, polls and questions online and students can use their devices to answer the questions provided and reports can be pulled after. Custom themes can also be added and you can use your own URL to share surveys or quizzes.

9. Animoto

As video is still one of the most engaging mediums today, Animoto lets students and teachers create animated videos, video slideshows, and allows them to add text and images to projects to make them more interactive. The platform offers a stock library and also allows you to use your own media to create your projects.

10. BoomWriter

BoomWriter is a great platform for collaborative writing and helps students improve their writing skills for any subject. Teachers can also make use of the pre-made lesson plans available on the platform that provide various writing techniques that can be shared with students.

This Peer-to-Peer platform focuses on improving critical thinking skills and allows students to work together to solve Mathematical problems on the platform. Teachers can also implement mathematical tasks and review their students’ work to improve problem-solving pedagogy.
