In early October, a national report released in the journal Pediatrics revealed that 1 percent of US children ages 3-17 have an autism spectrum disorder, an estimated prevalence of 1 in every 91 children.  This is a dramatic increase from the one in 150 prevalence rates currently reported.  Given the deluge of students diagnosed within the autism spectrum, states and schools are struggling to make sense of this and come up with best-practice standards & programs.  Some of the challenges faced by schools are:

  • Autism spectrum’s broad range
  • The diversity and complexity of individual needs
  • No "one-size-fits-all" approach
  • Handling academically brilliant students with social and communication barriers
  • And much more

This webinar, sponsored by eSchool News and AutismPro, has been designed to help educators understand how this influx of children with autism will affect schools and every general education classroom across the U.S.  Webinar speakers Jamie Duncan-Chapman and Philip Mellor will provide some initial strategies that both classroom teachers, and school and district administrators can implement now to confront this challenge head on.
