TRAILS-9, which stands for Tools for Real-Time Assessment of Information Literary Skills, uses multiple questions to assess the information literacy skills of students based on sixth- and ninth-grade standards. The free site, which is a project of the Institute of Library and Information Literacy Education, was developed to give library media specialists a tool to identify strengths and weaknesses of their students' information-seeking abilities. The assessment, which asks multiple-choice questions such as "You need to find an editorial on President Franklin Delano Roosevelt's New Deal program. How would you be most likely to find one from that time period?," reportedly has been used by more than 5,000 library media specialists in all states and 30 countries and administered to more than 100,000 students
