Follow leading scientists as they embark on expeditions around the world! The Field Museum's "Expeditions" site provides an opportunity for students to learn exactly what professional scientific research is all about. In its most recent exhibit, the site allows students and young researchers to monitor the progress of archaeologist Dr. Gary Feinman's latest dig in Oaxaca, Mexico. Interactive features include a library of slides from Feinman's trip, a link to live webcasts featuring the scientist on site, and a map that allows visitors to track progress of the expedition in real time. Students also can choose to receive updates via eMail to inform them of discoveries as they occur. Other features include access to Feinman's biography and a page that explains the function of several tools used by scientists during the excavation. Feinman's exhibit runs until June 30, and the Field Museum plans to provide similar access to additional expeditions in the future.
