Tool Factory and Olympus select the Classroom Grant award winners

Sunderland VT, June 12, 2007 - Tool Factory has completed judging of the Fall 2006 Classroom Grants Contest and has awarded 5 classroom teachers with $3,500 in awards for each classroom! Podcasting grant opportunities will be posting next week, to expand the opportunities for teachers.



Five classroom grant winners each received three Olympus point-and-shoot digital cameras, $2,000 in Tool Factory software of their choosing, Tool Factory´s Digital Camera Guide for Educators and $500 cash for additional equipment needed to complete the project idea. Five additional runner-up prize winners received Tool Factory Workshop software and Tool Factory´s Digital Camera Guide for Educators.



The Five Grand Prize Winners:



Karen Grindall, Portage Path Elementary Akron, OH

    Back in Time--Bringing it to the Future: As Portage Path Elementary School enters its 100th year anniversary, the school will work with the first and fifth grade classes to preserve the history of the school through oral histories and memorabilia throughout the century. They will use the Olympus digital cameras to record the current school building structure and surroundings then compare it to photos of the past. This will be recorded in Tool Factory Word Processor and eventually put into a DVD format for a school fundraiser to raise funds to modernize the school.




Tunisha Peterson, Bethune-Bowman Middle/High, Rowesville, SC

    No Theme Left Behind! Students from Bethune-Bowman High School will learn all aspects to creating a catering business. The students will create publications using Tool Factory Word Processor. They will categorize recipes, cooking instructions, marketing materials and final product images in Tool Factory Database. Afterwards they will use MultiMedia Lab V and Tool Factory Word Processor to create their business packages of theme menus, invitations, decorations and a slide show presentation of their foods.






Anna Andrews, American School for the Deaf, West Hartford, CT

    Bonjour Paris! Students from the American School for the Deaf have a wonderful exchange program with their sister school in Paris. Students at each school take classes in the language and culture of their "sister" school and each year, one school group travels to visit the other on an alternating basis. Using Tool Factory Word Processor the students will write to their assigned pen pals throughout the year. Students will also keep track of the fundraising efforts for their trip using Tool Factory Spreadsheet. Using the digital cameras the students will document the trip and upon return prepare a presentation using MultiMedia Lab V for the student body.




Kathy Uy, St. John Vianney Parish School Brookfield, WI

    Vamos A Viajar Students from St. John Vianney Parish School will use the Olympus digital cameras to create a one minute commercial video and travel brochure encouraging travel to a Spanish speaking city/country. Students will research the city/country by contacting the embassy and asking questions of cultural events, tourist information and safety concerns. This information will be documented in the brochures created using Tool Factory Word Processor and Whole Class Fresco. Later students will create a slide show for their "Vamos A Viajar" advertisement using MultiMedia Lab V.




Alvalene Rogers, C E Murray High School P O Box 188, Greeleyville, SC

    The Many Faces of Greeleyville Students will work in teams to collect information about their family history including favorite family recipes, holiday celebrations, local fables and stories and historic community facts. They will then create reports on their findings in Tool Factory Word Processor. Later, using Tool Factory Database the class will record the people and events, which the students regard as significant in their community. Students will use digital photographs to document sites in the community, celebrations and actual dishes created by family and community members. Using Tool Factory Workshop and Whole Class Fresco the students will compile their findings in a book and later create a presentation of their community using MultiMedia Lab V.
