The recent movie Amistad has brought to light a chapter in our nation's history that teachers might wish to explore with their classes. This site allows you to view original source documents pertaining to the case from the National Archives, including the Supreme Court's decision and a memo from John Quincy Adams. It also provides ideas for classroom activities, such as covering the trial for an 1841 newspaper or comparing the film's version to the actual events. You'll find links to sources for further reading on the Amistad case here as well.
