This site supports an online course in designing a planet. The course uses internet resources to encompass the fields of astronomy, geology, meteorology, microbiology, botany, and zoology, as students must locate their planet in a solar system, determine its climate and surface geology, and populate it with plants and animals that its climate would support. The site includes lesson plans, science notes, teacher resources, and sample planets created by teams of teachers who participated in the course. The course is being tried out in some high schools, and parts of it are being used in elementary grades as well. You may choose to use it yourself or adapt parts for your own classrooms.
