Although teachers and administrators nationwide were provided with census materials in April 1999, it’s quite likely that in many cases, the information was filed away or lost.
However, it’s not too late to obtain valuable information on the way the census is conducted and the many types of information that are gathered. With the census little more than two months away (April 1, 2000), now is a perfect time for teachers to work with their students on learning about the census. The U.S. Census Department has developed a series of grade-specific teaching materials that can be used to explore the census.
