T.H.E. Institute, the professional development division of T.H.E. Journal, will work with Microsoft Corp. to develop a new online course that will demonstrate techniques for integrating technology into the social studies classroom.
The course, titled “Using Technology in the Secondary Social Studies Classroom,” will become the sixth T.H.E. Institute course created to enhance teacher use of classroom technology. It will debut this summer, said T.H.E. Institute officials, who added that they anticipate having more than a dozen courses available by the start of the next school year.
The social studies course is designed to have enough content and training that it will enable teachers to qualify in many states and school districts for continuing education credits. It will be supplemented by free copies of Microsoft’s Encarta Encyclopedia Deluxe 2000, Africana 2000, and Interactive World Atlas, along with additional products and web sites.
