The South Dakota attorney general’s office has created a web site that offers information and resources on school violence. Attorney General Mark Barnett said school violence in other states prompted his office to start the “Safe Schools of South Dakota” web site.

The site contains 30 categories of information for students, parents, educators, and law enforcement officers. Sample resources in the “School Officials” section include a checklist of 12 steps for principals to help promote safe schools, from the National Crime Prevention Council; a guide for administrators in responding to tragedy, from the National Association of Attorneys General and National School Boards Association; and an overview of legal and policy issues associated with curbing school violence, also from the National Association of Attorneys General and National School Boards Association.
