A new study from Rutgers University confirms what many educators have feared: The internet makes cheating easier. More than half of the 4,500 students from the 25 high schools participating in the study said they use the internet to plagiarize.

But it appears the internet is merely the means, not the primary motivation for those students who copy text from the web and pass it off as their own. Most of the cheaters said they would have plagiarized anyway.
