The Web Interface for Statistics Education (WISE) project, developed by Claremont Graduate University, provides high school and college-level projects, lesson plans, and support information that can help teachers communicate the principles of statistics. The information also is readily transferable to teachers who are using statistics in other courses, such as science or economics. WISE can be found at

The authors, who also developed WISE, say they have tried to overcome the main criticism of statistics courses: Practical applications of statistics are not easy to translate from a statistics course. WISE provides a series of online tutorials for students that show how key concepts, such as the null hypothesis or t-test, are used. It gets at the underlying logic of the concepts.

The program also provides supplementary questions that can help students test whether they understand concepts, and it encourages classroom discussion to clarify information further.
