Start planning now: How would you use the money if your school were given part of the grant? What proven effective program would you choose?

Check the CSAP website (http://www.health.org) in late August to see which states are awarded the State Incentive Grants.

If your state is one of them:

  • Contact the governor’s office. Each state that is awarded a grant is required to create an advisory council. Find out how you can work with the advisory council to make your interests known.
  • Convince policymakers at the state level that the school systems need to be players. Let them know what you would do with the money.
  • Explain how school-based programs offer the opportunity to involve entire community settings.
  • Keep in mind that CSAP simply awards money to the states. It is up to the state to choose which communities will receive the funds.
