Ohio’s teachers are getting a helping hand as they enter the brave new world of teaching with technology. This web site for a statewide initiative dubbed “Technopoli” is helping educators in the Buckeye State find the training they need to use technology effectively in the classroom. Although it’s aimed at Ohio teachers, the site provides a great model for other states to follow. The Ohio Learning Network built the Technopoli web site to help educators and technical staff overcome the challenge of keeping up with new learning technologies, including research about what works and what doesn’t. Technopoli provides a central resource for educators to find the professional development opportunities they need without wasting valuable time. The site’s “Get Updates” feature is a particular time-saver. Users simply fill out a profile outlining their interests and training needs, and each week they automatically receive an eMail update listing opportunities in the site’s calendar of events that match their needs.
