Presented by the Children’s Web Surfing Alliance and PatentCafe’s Kids Cafe, CyberSurfari is an online scavenger hunt that gives students the chance to expand their knowledge of the internet and learn about dozens of topics along the way, while competing for thousands of dollars in cash and prizes. The contest takes kids on an expedition of more than 100 hand-picked educational destinations across the internet, called Outposts. To enter CyberSurfari, players register as a team or an individual and collect “treasure” by finding the answers to clues written by participating Outposts. Organizers bill the event as a “kid-safe” way to show teachers, students, and parents the multitude of resources available online and how to find them. Along the way, students can learn things such as how justice was different in colonial times, how many legs a spider needs in order to survive, and much more. The contest launched in October and runs through Jan. 10.
