Mervyn’s, a chain of department stores owned by Target Corp., gives nonprofit organizations grants ranging between $500 and $2,500. Mervyn’s has supported community arts, education, and social action projects that focus on children and families for more than 50 years. Together with Target Corp., Mervyn’s returns five percent–or $2 million a week–of its federally taxable income to communities in which it does business. Grant making at Mervyn’s begins and ends at the store level, so applicants should contact their local store manager when making a grant request. Applicants will be notified about their requests in approximately 90 days. The application process is described in detail on the company’s web site.
