Intel Corp. has created a series of free web resources for students and educators as part of its effort to promote the effective use of technology in education. “Design and Discovery” aims to spark an interest in engineering among students ages 11 to 14 with hands-on projects that introduce them to fundamental concepts. The program, which includes directions, handouts, and other resources, can be implemented in school or at after-school programs. Intel’s “Learning with Handhelds” web site provides resources and projects to help teachers integrate handheld computers into the classroom. In addition, Intel Innovation in Education Institutes provide teachers with face-to-face education workshops, using the train-the-trainer model, to ensure that educators get the most from Intel’s free web resources. Also, Intel announced that it has trained more than 1 million teachers through its Teach to the Future program.
