The 2004 Citizen Activist Award honors those who have struggled to improve K-12 public education in order to give each child the basic education necessary to succeed in today’s fast-changing world. The Gleitsman Foundation seeks activists, including professional educators or administrators, who work in creative and innovative ways and recognize the necessity of providing to all children a basic education. The honorees will share $100,000 and each will receive a specially commissioned sculpture designed by Maya Lin, creator of the Vietnam War Memorial in Washington, D.C. The award is not presented posthumously, and is not granted to groups or organizations.
